Following a process of selection process involving six building firms we decided to go with HMD Joinery.
The decision was based on:
1) Recommendation from our architect who had previously worked with Alistair and HMD.
2) The personal visit to explain the quote and finances underpinning the quote
3) We asked HMD to carry out the replacement work for our 10 windows which was completed to a standard that we were very happy with.
HMD then completed our build which was in excess of 100K, please note the following reasons I would have no hesitation in recommending HMD Joinery.
1) Alistair build up a strong relationship quickly with myself and my family and as we were living in the house for part of the build this was essential.
His team were very approachable and willing to help and support with questions when Alistair was not available (very infrequent occurrence).
I consider his team not only to be his joiners but the other contractors he brought on site, from builders to painters.
2) Excellent Communications : As with any build there were moments which required further discussion.
Alistair would always make us aware of any problems or issues with the build. He would initiate discussions between the architect and ourselves.
We trusted his opinion and experience and utilised weekly progress meetings to keep abreast of progress.
If I had an issue, Alistair dealt with it quickly and would feedback with a solution and course of action.
3) Finances – Alistair supplied monthly breakdowns of spend and made us aware of additional work and associated potential cost before executing the work.
At no point was I not clear on how much money had been spent and how much was still owed.
4) The quality of the work has been the most satisfying. We have had minimum snagging requirements and any that has been required has been completed in a timely manner.
Please note that myself and my partner have went through two builds of this size.
We were extremely nervous after our first experience with another contractor.
Alistair and HMD have restored my faith and if I was to undertake a third build I would not hesitate in asking Alistair and HMD.
